Welcome to Rebecca Dengler Golf Named a Top Teacher by the LPGA, Golf Digest and Golf for Women Magazines
We all know that golf instruction for a lot of players has not been very helpful. According to the USGA handicap system, players' scores are actually rising! That means players - both new and experienced - not only aren't improving, they are getting worse!
If you're reading this, you're looking for a better approach. My goal is to provide the kind of teaching that will help you be a successful player who enjoys the game of golf.
I have consulted some of the best minds in all fields, including behavioral specialists, researchers and fitness experts. I talked with golf pros who really teach differently and more effectively, including Swedish golf coaches who worked with Annika Sorenstam. I am always seeking new ideas and techniques to make me a more effective teacher.
All of my experience has taught me these key concepts:
Skills and behaviors can easily be changed for the better if they are taught in smaller and simpler steps. Most players are given too much information while learning, and they are unable to keep up with it all. Sadly, the golf swing is often taught in an overly-technical and complicated manner which makes improvement impossible.
Positive reinforcement encourages change much more effectively than negative reinforcement. It is more effective to approach a golf skill by thinking of what you want to do, versus what you do not want to do. For example, instead of telling yourself "not to top the ball," you can more easily learn to "hit the ball in the air."
Most players hold misconceptions and incorrect beliefs about the golf swing. How many times have you heard, "keep your head down?" In fact, the best players do not keep their heads still or down!
Finally, the golf swing is not golf. The full swing encompasses fewer than 50% of your strokes in the game of golf, yet most players (and many teachers!) spend 90% of their focus on the full swing. Players need to learn all the skills of the game in their proper proportion. Short game skills are crucial. Putting alone makes up more than 40% of all players' shots in a round of golf!
I want to create an environment where really positive change is possible for all players, from beginners to those playing at tournament level. I invite you to schedule a lesson through this website. Find the "Book a Lesson" button on the left-hand side of this page and come see me.
I hope learning and playing golf brings you as much enjoyment as teaching the game does to me! |
